Meet Marco, a 9- to 10-month-old German Shepherd boy who is at the very beginning of his life but has already found himself in need of a second chance. Marco was given up by his previous family because they could not look after him anymore.

Marco is a typical German Shepherd with a wonderful temperament. He is affectionate, playful, curious, and eager to interact with the people and dogs around him. These are all the makings of a teenage pup getting used to the world around him.

He enjoys human company and is comfortable being handled and fussed over. In the video, he settles happily beside his caregiver, seeks attention and affection, and interacts comfortably with the other dogs around him.

He has a malformed paw which makes his movements look funny. Despite this, he does not seem to be in any obvious discomfort. He loves to play and is energetic.

Marco is still a young dog, which means he has plenty of energy and curiosity. He will need a family that understands the needs of a growing German Shepherd and is prepared to give him the structure, exercise, training and companionship he needs to mature into a confident adult dog.

Marco requires a home that:

• • is experienced with working breeds, especially German Shepherds and who understand the German Shepherd temperament i.e. their intelligence, loyalty, and need for structured guidance
  • will commit to training and help him successfully navigate his teenage phase
  • has access to good groomers, private veterinary care and trainers or behaviourists
  • can provide a non-vegetarian diet
  • can provide him a structured lifestyle, with ample physical activity and mental stimulation to grow into a well-adjusted adult
  • can offer patience and commitment to training
  • will include him as part of the family and provide plenty of human interaction and companionship
