Meet Shiro, a 2–3-year-old male Lhasa Apso looking for a patient, understanding family who will give him the time he needs to feel safe and loved.

Shiro is learning to trust people after a difficult past. He is affectionate in his own gentle way and will come to you for love when he feels comfortable. In the beginning, he prefers minimal handling; one gentle pat is enough. He is not comfortable being picked up or cuddled right away, but with patience, consistency, and kindness, he has every chance to blossom into a confident companion.

He gets along well with most dogs, though he is fearful of very large dogs, and that fear can sometimes present as aggression. He is also comfortable spending time on his own and does not demand constant attention, making him a good fit for a calm, stable home.

He is vaccinated, dewormed, and will be neutered before adoption.

Shiro needs a home that:

• • has experience with Lhasa’s or Shitzu’s that are slightly reserved and will be patient with him
  • is willing to give Shiro time and space to settle in at his own pace and not force immediate affection from him
  • will commit to training and can provide a structured lifestyle
  • has access to good groomers, private veterinary care and trainers or behaviourists
  • can provide a non-vegetarian diet
  • does not have very large dogs
  • is supportive of giving Shiro the time he needs to adjust
